Email: SettingsNetscape is the "Monash Preferred" mail reader. Follow these instructions to set up netscape to read your email from anywhere. If you are using the G3 lab and want to know how to use your email then read G3 lab instructions IMAP or POP?Please use IMAP if at all possible! IMAP leaves the mail on the server where the mail boxes are backed up and stored safely. If you use POP then all your email is downloaded to your computer and read locally which means that if your computer dies, you lose your email.More importantly it means that if you read email with POP then it will pull all the email off the server so you cant read it from home (or somewhere else). POP sucks, IMAP rules. But IMAP is slowerYeah, but your email is backed up on the server, plus you can read it from many places. That is worth the slower response.POP is actually slower if you are using a modem or something like that because it will have to upload that 2Meg word attachment before you can read it. IMAP just uploads the headers to the email and messages you request so you should actually get the list of email quicker with IMAP. But....NO BUTS! Use IMAP! (please?)Details of the operation and maintainance of email are available for those interested. Here is an email that I sent round the department detailing reading email from outside. |
