My Mac isnt on the network any more....

Have other people's Macs stopped working too?
Then it is probably a network problem. Contact cameron ASAP!
Is it just your Mac?
If so then go to the "appletalk control panel" on your machine and switch it from 'printer' (or whatever) to 'ethernet'. This is the first step covered here
Is it STILL just your Mac?
Look at your "TCP/IP properties" and see if your name server is 130.194.168.3. If so then change it to 130.194.168.8. You should be using DHCP for your networking so this problem wont happen. Follow these instructions to fix

My PC cant see earth server....

Does netscape/email work?
If not then it is probably a network problem so continue to the next item. If they do still work, then samba may have died. Please submit a problem report.
Check other people's PC's
If they work correctly then it is just your machine. Verify your network settings.
Check other people's Mac's
If Mac's near your computer are having problems then it is probably a general network problem. Report this to cameron ASAP!

Why not just earth.monash.edu.au in email

Good question.

earth.monash.edu.au is a mail alias which redirects email to an actual machine (mail.earth.monash.edu.au).

Because earth.monash.edu.au is not a real machine. You cant visit it with http://earth.monash.edu.au/ (note, this works INSIDE earth sciences, because I control that, but it wont work outside because the computer center run that).

When I print from my PC I get 3 extra pages

Printing extra pages with 'stack doohicky' means that the computer in question is:

running windows
using PRINTERNAME-ps rather than PRINTERNAME-raw
it is probably using the wrong driver.

You should refer to the PC printing details page to see what printer name and driver you should be using.

Whats my authcate password?!

If you havnt ever used Authcate before then you can use the Web Interface... and do the following.

Open url http://alpha1.cc.monash.edu.au/
Select the link to Get password for Registered Systems
Provide the usercode.
Provide the Monash Identification number.
For staff the birthdate field is ignored.
If successful, you will be given a list of systems and the initial password.

If you have used authcate and forgotten your password then you will have to come and get me to reset it.

Where do I get MAC's or PC's and stuff?

You can purchase or lease mac's and pc's from the following places.

If it isnt a simple purchase but something weird for a MAC then I have had good results from the Choice connections (they are not uni approved suppliers but they have been helpful in the past with more difficultstuff).

If you are looking for odd bits and pieces then TECS is useful. They are an electronics company that also sells computers so they can usually help with bits and pieces. Again no uni approved, so no good for simple system purchases.
